Location Spotlight: Union Street Londis

MEET MR PATEL, THE OWNER OF LONDIS IN UNION STREET- OUR PARCELLY LOCATION OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER!

A big shout out to Mr Patel and to the great service he and his team offers to his customers and his local community. Londis in Union Street is beautifully located not far from the Tate Modern, a fixed staple of London. The great feedback the shop receives for the outstanding customer service they offer made them the Parcelly Location of the Month!

On a very cloudy Wednesday, our team went to congratulate Mr Patel and to find out how our service has impacted his business. 

Thank you for participating in this interview, would you like to share when you started this business? 

"I opened the business 13 years ago. I left school very early and started working as a builder. Back in the days, I used to work at my friend’s shop, as well. It was a cash and carry. Shortly after, I quit as a builder and opened my first shop in East London which I sold after a year. After my brother left university, we both decided to open a bigger shop than the previous one and we stayed open since. It was a big change, from being a builder to becoming a business owner. Looking back, it was the healthier choice as I was not exposed to heavy lifting and dust. Plus, I created something of my own."

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

"I like the human interaction that comes with buying and selling. You meet a multitude of people and you talk to them, learning something new every time about them and about yourself. I enjoy dealing with different personalities and adapting myself to the person I have in front of me. For example, if I am serving a young customer I talk in a certain manner while if I serve an older customer I behave differently. You meet different characters and you change with that. "

Why did you choose to offer click and collect to your customers?

"The way people are shopping has changed and I believe that if you do not keep on constantly improving your business you are going to lose grounds to your competitors. Back in the days, people used to shop online and wait for their parcels at home for the whole day or they would ask their neighbours to receive and store their deliveries for them. This entire process is a hurdle. Given the situation, we believed that it was the right time to offer click and collect in our shop. Now, customers do not have to wait for their parcels at home as they can address them to our shop where we can securely store them. It is the most convenient choice for them as they can pick up their parcels on their way to work, during their lunch break or when they return to their home in the evening."

How has Parcelly’s Click and Collect service impacted your business? 

"Since we began our partnership with Parcelly two years ago, we have noticed an increase in the number of our customers. The footfall has increased and, therefore, our revenues have grown as well. They enter their Parcelly IDs and then they come here to collect their parcels and, to be more time-efficient, they buy products from our shop. Thanks to Parcelly, we were able to establish customer loyalty with Parcelly users and now we do not even need their Parcelly IDs because we know them by heart. People say that the high street is dead, but I think it is vibrant and growing. Online retailers send their products into our commercial shops and that keeps the high street alive."

What is your best memory in the shop?

"I remember being very excited when I first opened the shop. At the time, everything was new and exciting and then slowly that feeling faded away because we got used to the shop. But I always get to experience the excitement when I add a new product or a new service in the shop."
