DELIVER is an annual event where senior retail and logistics leaders come together to shape the future of E-commerce. For the 7th consecutive year, 800+ retailers attended to connect with leading vendors who offer new solutions and technologies within the industry. Held in Amsterdam this year, the event consisted of 1-1 meetings, break-out sessions and key-note speaker presentations.

The Parcelly team attended both days of the event, and our CEO Sebastian Steinhauser had the opportunity to host an Innovation Theatre session to showcase our Hyper-local Warehousing solution. DELIVER was our first European based conference in the last 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and it was great to exhibit alongside some of our partners: DHL, Gophr, Stuart and What3Words as well as other industry leaders: DPDGroup, Evri, Swiss Post, Metapack and many, many more.

The main aim of DELIVER is to share insights, make new connections, and connect leading vendors with retailers actively looking for new solutions and technologies. We couldn’t wait to discuss and showcase our Hyper-local Fulfilment, Micro Warehousing and On-demand delivery opportunities.

Day 1 kicked off with 1-1 meetings at the Parcelly stand along with a variety of insightful keynote sessions. Marisa Selfa, CEO of North Sails, kicked off the Keynote Theatre with a session on Sustainability and Circularity, followed by Caterina Occhio, CSR Advisor of Alaia, who discussed Brand Loyalty and Customer Retention. Later that afternoon, breakout sessions began, and we saw a variety of Case Studies, Rapid Fire Debates, Workshop Studios and Innovation Theatre sessions. At 3pm Gophr held a Workshop Studio titled: “Last Mile Delivery: My Precious” hosted by Chief Commercial Officer Patrick Eve, CEO Seb Robert and Strategic Account Director Graham Smith. Here they showcased their partnership with Screwfix and explained how they can make same day delivery work for any business, from prosecco to power tools.

Our CEO Sebastian Steinhauser then took to the Innovation Theatre to discuss “Hyper-local Fulfilment Networks for Sustainable Out of Home Delivery Services”, a session that looked to uncover the innovative solutions to reduce delivery costs and increase last and first mile delivery speeds. He began by looking at the new normal of consumer expectations, addressing challenges such as storage limits, volume increase and returns. For example, “4 in 5 retailers repurposed physical storage space to keep up with the growing demands of E-commerce". Next up in the session, Sebastian spoke about consumer centric fulfilment and the importance of getting it right, declaring consumer experience as the new frontier to conquer. Following this, he then put focus on the Parcelly solution, highlighting the opportunity for Hyper-local Fulfilment networks and our innovative tech solution, powering the new reality of retail. He explained that “the (hyper-local) opportunity is massive right now. The range of solutions enables instant delivery and collection. Without owning a single outlet, your customers can buy online and collect in store same day”. It was overall a very insightful session, which ended with an interactive Q+A with the audience. Day 1 then ended with a Networking Party thrown by DHL. A great opportunity to further connect and unwind after a busy day!

Day 2 arrived, and it was time to do it all again! Another day of learning and connecting with others, bringing awareness to the Parcelly solution. The morning started with a Case Study session hosted by Stuart titled “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads, where eVP of Growth Sebastian O’Keefe and Director of Hub to Home Marcus Hurd addressed the future of retail. The session focused on Delivery for the On-demand Era, with Sebastian O’Keefe stating that “There will be much more ship from store happening. Those who don't have ship from store facilities will be using micro-hubs and local fulfilment”. We then spent some time gaining insight into the world of Robotics and Automation in the Machine Demo space, hearing from companies such as OPEX and Geek +. It’s an exciting opportunity and who knows... maybe the future of Parcelly’s Micro-fulfilment automation? Finally, we wrapped up the event at the DELIVER Awards Ceremony. Congratulations to all the winners!

Top quotes from the day

Sebastian Steinhauser, CEO and Founder of Parcelly: “It's important to get it right. Almost 70% of customers who haven't received the delivery they expect, will not purchase again”

Sebastian O’Keefe, eVP of Growth at Stuart: “We've taught customers not to pay. Less than 15% are willing to pay €1 surcharge for delivery. Unless we are able to make same day cost-effective, it will remain niche”

Sebastian Steinhauser, CEO and Founder of Parcelly: “The micro-hub solution becomes a very lean way to tap into a consumer area. A hub solution that is courier agnostic enables you to fulfil in the optimal area with the most effective courier [for your business]”

Overall, Parcelly had a fantastic time at the event. A massive thanks to DELIVER Events for producing a highly organised and quality event. We will definitely be back at future events to share our thought leadership and tech solution! #DELIVER2022
