It's #UKCharityWeek and we took the opportunity to bring attention to the brilliant work our business partner Barnardo's does, not only for children and families in need across the country, but also for their local community. This beautiful store was thriving with customers in friendly conversation during the entirety of our stay, and we felt right at home - even getting the chance to explain our service to a few customers (who exclaimed 'This is the future!' and we couldn't agree more!).

Barnardo’s shops are a great place for the community to donate unwanted items, shop for quality goods and invest free time to volunteer at one of the stores. We are extremely pleased to be partnering with a distinguished charity like Barnardo’s across the country, and not only generating a new revenue stream for them with our service, but knowing that the profits for each parcel collected or returned are invested into the charity.

Chosen for providing an amazing customer service and working for #AgoodCause in their local community, Barnardo’s Kids in Chingford is a fantastic location to work with. We had a great time talking with Ms. Laing (and her assistant George Clooney) and finding out more about her time at Barnardo's.

So, how do you find running the Parcelly service?

It is great and they are very helpful and accommodating. We even agreed that I do not have to use the app to check in and out parcels, as I don't have my phone on me when I'm on the store floor and like to keep my mind on what I'm doing... So now it just needs a quick phone call to their customer service team to process the parcels, which swiftly became part of the daily routine. And usually you get someone who's so so quick, you just phone in and boom, it's done! 
Our customers have been really great too. Just recently we had one really really big parcel come in and I didn't want to refuse it, so I called up the customer and asked if he wouldn't mind coming round the back to collect it and he said 'of course, no problems at all'! And because we sell such a wide variety of things at the store, we find customers always see something that interests them which is brilliant for Barnardo's.

And what's it like working for Barnardo's, do you work with the children directly?

We work on the retail side, so, unfortunately, I don't work with Barnardo's projects directly. However, it's still very rewarding knowing that the hard work we put into running the store here positively affects the lives of 1,000's of children directly. Knowing all the money you've helped raised and all the work Barnardo's have done and achieved for the kids over the years, it's really really rewarding. When you have a good day it's always a nice feeling, but when you have a good day at Barnardo's it's an amazing feeling. 

If you could set up your own Barnardo's store, what type of items would you sell?

Womenswear because it's our best seller! And of course when you're running a Barnardo's store, the more money you can raise for the charity the better! My daughter never used to like coming into the store, but now she and her friends are always here, it's amazing some of the stuff you can find.
