MEET LEANNE, MANAGER AT BARNARDO’S IN CHISWICK- OUR PARCELLY LOCATION OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH!

This incredible charity shop is located in Chiswick and it is a landmark for the community in regards to shopping and parcels. In a cloudy Friday, we called Leanne who explained to us her experience as a Manager of a Barnardo’s charity shop and Parcelly’s Click & Collect point. Barnardo’s charity shops offer Click & Collect service to the community while selling amazing merchandise and donations to contribute towards a #AGoodCause.
Leanne has been an outstanding partner and we were very delighted to have a chat with her to further explore her experience and her dedication to the job.
Leanne, it’s lovely to meet you, would you like to share when you started working in this charity shop?
“Initially, I started as a volunteer in another Barnardo’s branch and then became a keyholder. Three years ago, I began volunteering in the Chiswick brand and then worked my way up to Manager. It is a rewarding experience working for Barnardo’s as they are really doing a great job. They are very active on social media and also advertise on TV. Barnardo’s is also contributing to cancer research. They are doing a wonderful job and I believe it is one of the best companies to work for.”
That’s great to hear! What would you say is the best part of the job?
“There are many aspects that I enjoy about my job. I love the diversity of the charity shop. The quality and the range of donations especially. People donate all sorts of beautiful stuff which, sometimes, has still the price tag on. For example, I remember that someone donated Giorgio Armani clothes and we had Karen Miller clothes in as well. We have instruments, like guitars and organs. I just miss a saxophone to the collection! In the past, people used to donate antique and vintage items, but that doesn’t happen anymore. Not that we are complaining. I also enjoy taking care of merchandising and customer interaction. We have lovely people coming in. However, most importantly, I love that I am generating income for Barnardo’s and contributing to their cause.”
Has Parcelly's Click & Collect impacted on footfall in any way?
“Parcelly’s Click & Collect has certainly impacted on footfall in the shop. We have a group of people who regularly collect their parcels from the charity shop. We know their names by heart so we don’t even need to ask for the Parcelly IDs. We just call when we see them walking in and, in the meanwhile, we enjoy a bit of banter, as well. I have to say that all the customers that use Parcelly are very young."
How have you found Parcelly's customer service?
“Parcelly’s customer service team is really helpful and the process of checking - in and - out parcels is always very smooth. We call you up, provide you with all the specifics and it’s all done! The service works well. Every time I call, you guys call me by my name which I really appreciate."
In regards to the current situation, what do you think will be the effects of the pandemic?
“I think the current pandemic will accelerate the process of people shopping and living online. There are 13 charity shops in Chiswick and some of them are closing down. I believe that a 14-days lockdown is going to have positive economic results. In two weeks, people will feel the urge to go out and go into shops which ultimately will help to make more money."
