MEET MR KUGAN, THE DIRECTOR AT COSTCUTTER IN HERNE HILL- OUR PARCELLY LOCATION OF THE MONTH FOR AUGUST!

This successful business is located at the heart of Herne Hill and it is a landmark for the community in regards to shopping and parcels. In a very busy Monday afternoon, we met Mr Kugan who explained to us his experience as a business owner and Parcelly business partner. COSTCUTTER is experimenting with the Hyper-Local Fulfilment project with Krispy Kreme (enough said that we were seriously tempted by all the donuts around us).
Mr Kugan has been an outstanding partner and we were very delighted to sit down with him to further explore his experience and his dedication to his job.
Working with you has been a pleasure. Would you mind telling us when you started your business?
“I started the business 10 years ago. I was working for a company and then I was working flat out. One day I realised that I didn’t like an office job and sitting behind a desk. I wanted to try something different and that is how the idea of owning and managing a business sparked in my mind. Now, after almost 10 years we have become a point of reference for the local community as we have a great relationship with them”.
What is the best part of your job?
“I enjoy the challenge. We face fierce competition from two multiples in this area and I enjoy the thrill of always working out new ways to put ourselves ahead of them. At the beginning, it was hard but then we experimented and introduced innovative solutions to the place. I am proud of the customer service we offer, but it is not just limited to that. For example, we offer organic and vegan food, we have extended hours as we are open 24 hours and we partner with UberEATS and Deliveroo.”
Could you please illustrate us your experience with Parcelly?
“I was introduced to the company by a area manager and then Dan (Business Development&Sales Senior Manager, Parcelly) came and described thoroughly the brand and the opportunities it offers. We had the store, the time and space so I thought it was a great occasion to monetise. Parcelly has allowed me to continue the process of diversification from the competition. I must stress out that the customer footfall has been amazing, and we had increased chances of cross-selling, the customer service team is always keen to resolve the few issues I have and the personal service I receive from the Sale team is rewarding”.
Finally, how do you like to spend your free time?
“If I have any! (laughs). It’s tough to be a business owner and we had major renovations at the store, so I don’t really get much time off. However, when I do, I love doing outdoor activities, like cycling, or just some classic telly time with my children."
